NORMANDY — In one of Victor Little’s first business classes, the professor said something he has remembered and lived by ever since: “Find a need and fill it.”
Little runs Afro World Hair and Fashion Company with his sister, Sheila Little-Forrest. Founded in 1970, the store sells African clothing, African art, T-shirts, books and more, and is one of Normandy’s oldest businesses. The store has changed and adapted with the times by seeing needs and filling them.
That simple mantra has been vital to his company’s success, but he also applies it to his own life and his community. He looks for what needs to be done, and he does it.
And sometimes, Little said, it anticipates a need and fills it before anyone else even realizes they have it. For instance, when the COVID pandemic hit, the siblings created African-design facemasks. They have become a big seller.

“The thing I wanted to do was get African-Americans excited about wearing masks,” he said.
At 66, Little is retired — except when Little-Forrest calls him. “My retirement depends entirely on my sister,” he said.
