Batman’s Newest Robin Debuts Their Incredible Costume

Batman: Beyond the White Knight #3 introduces a new Robin to assist an aging Bruce Wayne who’s up against a host of unfamiliar threats in Neo-Gotham.
A new Robin appears to defend Neo-Gotham in Batman: Beyond the White Knight #3, and the man behind the bright red armor is none other than Duke Thomas.
Originally introduced in writer and artist Sean Gordon Murphy’s first Batman: White Knight series, this version of Duke is a grizzled adult rather than his younger counterpart in regular continuity. Issue #3 reveals that Duke, tired of working alongside a jaded Dick Grayson in the special tactics division of Gotham City, hopes to rejoin the GCPD. Commissioner Barbara Gordon tells him that it isn’t the GCPD that needs him — it’s Bruce Wayne, who’s escaped from prison and trying to bring down corrupt businessman Derek Powers.
To help Duke on his mission, Barbara gives him a case with the classic “R” on it, telling him that it’s the perfect symbol to aid his vigilante activities. Duke remarks that the Robin armor is “a little…bright,” but dons it nevertheless and comes to Bruce’s assistance at the end of the issue, as the former Dark Knight duels a young Terry McGinnis who’s stolen his Batman Beyond suit.
Murphy’s design for Duke’s Robin outfit was previously revealed on social media in February. On Instagram, Murphy wrote that he had decided to include a Black Robin in a backup story in 2014’s Detective Comics #27.
