Being nominated for an Emmy award for her costuming work last season, costume designer Alex Bovaird had her work cut out for her when The White Lotus touched down in Sicily for its second season.
From the first episode, it was clear that Bovaird had really amplified the costuming choices, proving that costuming not only adds visual richness to a shot but can also act drive plot progression. Clothes maketh the man, as they say, but in the case of characters on The White Lotus they also hint at their downfall.

That floral dress
In the lead-up to and as she meets her demise, Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) wears a floral dress that links her sartorially to that iconic scene in The Godfather where Michael Corleone’s wife, Apollonia, is mistakenly killed by a car bomb intended for her husband.
Earlier this season, when the Di Grasso family and Portia visit the site where this Godfather scene was shot, we see a mannequin in a car recreating the scene wearing an orange and pink floral dress – the same style that Tanya wears in the final episode.
