Roughly 15,000 festival-goers in zany costumes were expected at Wellington’s Armageddon Expo this weekend.
Action figures queue for sausages, a queen of hearts vapes in the sunshine and a walking TV set poses for photos.
This is the Armageddon Expo – back in person for the first time in three years – attracting thousands of self-proclaimed nerds.

One of them was Armageddon organiser Bill Geradts, who implored people to join the ‘geek cult’ where cosplay, comic books, gaming merchandise and celebrity sightings were on offer.
“I’ve been a nerd all my life and I feel sometimes like I’m one of those religious guys that just wants to convert everyone else. It’s like ‘c’mon and join the geek cult… it’s fun, and we have snacks.’”

Armageddon Expo organiser Bill Geradts says people should join ‘the geek cult’.
About 15,000 people were expected to filter through the Sky Stadium over the weekend.
The pandemic forced the event online for two years, so Geradts said it was great to host international talents again in Aotearoa.
