to reflect on his own rookie season. He thought about how quiet he was as a 21-year-old guard entering the league and how intimidating it was at first to share the court with established veterans like Monta Ellis, David Lee and Richard Jefferson.
Thompson’s rookie season was a mess. The Warriors won just 23 games that season under head coach Mark Jackson and Thompson often “shut off” until spoken to because he didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes. But that’s not the type of environment Thompson, or Golden State’s other veterans like
Stephen Curry,
Draymond Green
and
Andre Iguodala, are creating for their rookie teammates today. While the new players are expected to learn and grow, they’re given the freedom to have their own voice and the space to be themselves.
“See, there’s pressure on us and then there’s not pressure on us,” Rollins said. “We know they already have a set foundation with their main guys, so there’s no pressure on us to go out there and perform at this point. We’re just coming in and learning.”
